Mondo Cane 2 (1963)

Option 1Can't Watch?

Wait 30secs. Movie still not playing? Click the "Can't Watch?" tab.

If the movie didn't load, it means you are being blocked by a security service we use. This can happen for a number of reasons.

Click this first

A new tab will open and a basic security check like a captcha will be performed. After completing the check, close that page and return here.

Refresh this page. Wait 30 secs. The movie should load and you can just hit play.

If it still doesn't play, Click here to watch the movie

The movie should now start playing in a new tab of your browser or begin downloading to your device. This option has the minor disadvantage that English-language movies with optional subtitles in the movie player will not include these subs with this method.

The new system here has been designed keeping in mind even people with low internet speeds sub-8mbps. Even if you have a really bad connection, you should still be able to watch the movie without any issues if you:
Start the movie. Pause it. Wait for 30-45 seconds. Start playing again.

This 'Can't Watch' method really only works if it's your specific device/browser that's interfering with the player. There is no real advantage of speed here. Or if there is a temp network glitch or read lag from the server disk.

If you're still having problems, try using 'Incognito mode' in your browser. On iPhones, especially older ones, use Chrome instead of Safari. Might help.

IMPORTANT: Please make sure that the newly opened tab is not an ad popup asking you to download some software or whatever. Close any such popups and don't download any software - those are ads. Nothing is needed to be done by you other than to complete the security check which is often automated.

AKA: Crazy World; Mondo Insanity
Directed by: Gualtiero Jacopetti, Franco Prosperi
Starring:
Country: Italy
Language: English (dubbed)
Runtime: 01:40:12
Genres: Documentary, Gruesome, Religion, Violence Against-Animals, Insects-Small Animals, Self-Harm, Drag-CrossDressing, Human Trafficking, Body Modification

Plot – Spoilers:
The 2nd part in the series begins with a dark, comical jab at British censorship and continues with a lot of coverage of violence vs animals. Rather than this being a pet fascination of the filmmakers, it’s more likely a representation of reality.

After a while, you don’t care anymore whether there is real footage in between the fictional depictions of cultural practices and events (like the burning monk reenactment). What remains though, is that the events are so bizarre and funnily presented, you will most likely be entertained.

It’s a typical Mondo film with crazy people doing kooky things and the narrator snarking his comical jibes. Of course we see some nude bush boogies dancing in the jungle to bongo music but there are some other very interesting segments as well, like when an African tribe discovers that eating crocodile everyday will make them sterile. There are some harsh moments that are tough to watch, such as when the baby pelicans are dying because of the poison let loose in to their drinking water by a soda factory, or when a tribe in Sudan torture/sacrifice a dog to the rain gods because it hasn’t rained there in almost a year (that segment looked a little fake). Best part? The “slap” musical number at the end with the midget crying. It’s a fabulous documentary. 4 stars.

The Monk being burned alive, and then his body was still twitching after he was dead really stuck to me for a bit. What was your favourite scene?

This documentary was shockingly disgusting, sick, sexist, racist and I fucking LOVED it. I was watching it with one eye closed.

A shockingly & strange documentary! Very controversial! I felt like I went back in the past with this film. It gave me a glimpse of what life was like 58 years ago. It was pretty ‘effedup’ as it is today. Thanks EUM.

Great documentary, very entertaining. Thank you for posting it. The lesson I take from it is that every human being on this planet is a barbarian. We just think we’re civilized. We are not.
