American Psycho (2000)

Option 1Can't Watch?

Wait 30secs. Movie still not playing? Click the "Can't Watch?" tab.

If the movie didn't load, it means you are being blocked by a security service we use. This can happen for a number of reasons.

Click this first

A new tab will open and a basic security check like a captcha will be performed. After completing the check, close that page and return here.

Refresh this page. Wait 30 secs. The movie should load and you can just hit play.

If it still doesn't play, Click here to watch the movie

The movie should now start playing in a new tab of your browser or begin downloading to your device. This option has the minor disadvantage that English-language movies with optional subtitles in the movie player will not include these subs with this method.

The new system here has been designed keeping in mind even people with low internet speeds sub-8mbps. Even if you have a really bad connection, you should still be able to watch the movie without any issues if you:
Start the movie. Pause it. Wait for 30-45 seconds. Start playing again.

This 'Can't Watch' method really only works if it's your specific device/browser that's interfering with the player. There is no real advantage of speed here. Or if there is a temp network glitch or read lag from the server disk.

If you're still having problems, try using 'Incognito mode' in your browser. On iPhones, especially older ones, use Chrome instead of Safari. Might help.

IMPORTANT: Please make sure that the newly opened tab is not an ad popup asking you to download some software or whatever. Close any such popups and don't download any software - those are ads. Nothing is needed to be done by you other than to complete the security check which is often automated.

AKA:
Directed by: Mary Harron
Starring: Christian Bale (Patrick Bateman), Chloe Sevigny (Jean), Jared Leto (Paul Allen), Reese Witherspoon (Evelyn), Samantha Mathis (Courtney), Josh Lucas (McDermott), Justin Theroux (Bryce)
Country: United States, Canada
Language: English (Eng Subs)
Runtime: 01:42:00
Genres: Sexual-Violence against Women, Serial Killers

Plot – Spoilers:
Patrick Bateman is an investment banker into ‘mergers and acquisitions’ or ‘murders and executions’ as he likes to call it. He has fantasies of killing people, mostly women, which he sometimes appears to act on.

The trigger for a killing could be a stray comment, an attitude to life he doesn’t approve of, or simply envy. We follow Bateman through his empty life where colleagues don’t even care to remember each other’s names – a vacuum Bateman attempts to fill through his murders and narcissistic indulgences. He also is most likely closeted gay and loves to expound on the intricacies of ’80s pop music – sadly for him, the only people he feels confident enough to do so with, are potential victims or hookers. Bateman is pleading to be punished and redeemed in a world that couldn’t be bothered enough to even chastise him.

Favorite Scene:
The Huey Lewis scene with the axe features a hilarious performance from Christian Bale apart from the ‘check em’ moment.

No, you aren’t special or crazy for finding Patrick Bateman attractive. He is CLEARLY very attractive and tall. Anyways, I like the cannibalism and simplicity in this film. The aesthetic hits hard. 1 Published in 1991, Bret Easton Ellis’ third novel was greeted by howls of hatred more appropriate to a small war in the Third World or another Golan-Globus Lemon Popsicle sequel. A first person report from inside the mind of Patrick Bateman, who epitomises the ills of the 1980s by combining the professions of Wall Street broker (“mergers and acquisitions”) and serial killer (“murders and executions”), the book was widely misinterpreted as a hideously misogynist tract that used explicit violence to draw attention to a thinly-plotted pretend thriller with dollops of surface-level satire. There has always been the threat of a film, with such scary names as Oliver Stone, Brian De Palma and David Cronenberg in the ring – but the project has fallen to Mary Harron, the ex-BBC documentarian who made an underrated debut with I Shot Andy Warhol, who has cannily brought aboard the apparently unlikely Guinevere Turner (the lesbian icon from Go Fish) to co-write and play the funniest victim. The result is the best imaginable film of very difficult material; it doesn’t say much more than, “The 80s were shit,” but manages exactly to catch the all-surfaces, dazzlingly obsessive tone of the novel, making its points by treating all subjects – nouvelle cuisine, MOR rock music, fitness kicks, clothes, personal grooming – with exactly… Read more »

Mainstream kooky black comedy with a star studded cast, the kind of movie that EUM viewers hem and haw about. It’s a satire of the cooperate yuppie culture and it’s LOL funny. 4 stars.

What I find remarkable is that Bale got himself in to tip top condition for this 2000 film role and then wasted away to around 120 pounds for the 2004 role in “The Machinist.” Bale wanted to get down to 99 pounds but the director wouldn’t allow him to lose any more weight thinking that Bale would possibly die. Then Bale only had 6 weeks after shooting to make the weight needed for “Batman Begins” (2005) by binging on pizzas and ice cream.

Willem Dafoe gives a great performance here. Dafoe has starred in several fantastic films including “Platoon” (1986), “Mississippi Burning” (1988) (here on EUM), “The Machinist” (2004) (here on EUM), “Born on the Fourth of July” (1989), “Auto Focus” (2002) (it should be on EUM) and “Antichrist” (2009) (here on EUM).

This guy is not a psychopath, he’s a very inaccurate portrayal of one. I have ASPD and I can say, if you want a real psychopath go watch Nightcrawler or something.

Hilarious movie. I bet he never returned those videotapes.
One of the rare cases where the movie is better than the book. Who wants to read a half dozen pages about what some yuppie thinks of a Whitney Houston album before he stuffs some girl’s pussy full of cheese and lets a bucket of rats loose on her.

I tried to pitch a film to Paramount once called American Kike-o. It’s all about some cheap ass Jew who wants to find the least expensive business card possible. He ends up suing the Caterpillar Corporation for their business cards because their shoes were too heavy and gave him itchy corns on his feet. Still can’t believe they declined it. If anyone can get me a meeting with Sony that’d be awesome.

Christian Bale is phenomenal. I love him so ❤️ The film touches on the high points of the book but there’s only so much one can do in 2 hrs, If you think this is a horror comedy, you’ll love the book. Another thing that impressed me about this film is that it was directed by a woman. My kinda gal.

One of my favourite movies. When I got this on dvd when I was 18 I watched it a few times over the years and eventually came across the book as a shitty paperback. I recommended people to read the book. I love both, although rereading the book a 3rd time over a dozen years would be draining.

Tbh, this is more funny (in a weird way) than effed up or disturbing. It’s more of a black comedy than horror/gore movie.

Donations from Adolf Hitler and Field Marshal Mackensen to the new Protestant Church in Dortmund-Menged, 16 October 1937

“Establishing the true circumstances of the Fuhrer’s alleged donation.
The information from the evangelical weekly “Auf der Warte” about the grand opening of the church in Dortmund-Menged is correct. The Evangelical Society of the parish in Dortmund-Menged, by letter dated 16.10.37 from the Secretary of State and Head of the Reich Chancellery in Berlin, based on a petition to the Fuhrer and the Reich Chancellor, received the sum of 200 Reichsmarks as a donation for the newly built church in Dortmund-Nett. With this money, the parish society purchased altar lights.

Field Marshal von Mackensen presented a Bible with a handwritten inscription: “I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ.”

This is one of my favorite films of all times. Patrick, with his OCD and other problems, gives in to the excesses of his class. Excess leads to more excess until he’s out of control, and he is without guilt or punishment. There’s a reason the book ends with “This is not an exit”.
Is there anything Christian Bale can’t do? Another good one is The Machinist. He totally gives in to the role.
If you’re a Willem Defoe fan, he does a nightmarish film called Antichrist.
